FIM EWC’S GLOBAL APPEAL UNDERLINED WITH CONFIRMATION OF MOTUL’S RETURN AS OFFICIAL SUPPLIER

20 March 2024

  • Multi-year agreement between Warner Bros. Discovery Sports and Motul announced
  • Major focus on Suzuka 8 Hours, Japan’s FIM Endurance World Championship round
  • EWC goes from strength to strength ahead of eagerly anticipated 2024 season

Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe, promoter of the FIM Endurance World Championship, is delighted to announce the return of Motul to the EWC family as an Official Supplier under a multi-year agreement.

French company Motul, a producer of high-performance lubricants for engines and industry, will enjoy Official Supplier status for the EWC seasons 2024-2028 inclusive.

Motul had previously enjoyed a successful association with the EWC through a partnership agreement that spanned from 2016 to 2018. Although this partnership concluded at the end of 2018, Motul has maintained its involvement in the championship by supporting competing teams and collaborating with various rounds of the series.

For several years, the iconic red and white Motul logo adorned the sides of the Yoshimura SERT Motul and F.C.C. TSR Honda France machines, demonstrating a durable and fruitful partnership. This collaboration is set to continue into 2024, reaffirming Motul's commitment to endurance racing. Furthermore, thanks to the direct collaboration facilitated by Kawasaki France, the Motul name will be associated with Team Kawasaki Webike Trickstar during the upcoming season.

As part of the exciting new alliance between Motul and the EWC, a major activation is planned around the Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race, Japan’s round of the EWC, the 45th edition of which is due to take place from 18-21 July. The activation will feature increased trackside advertising, including a dedicated corner at the legendary venue.

Jean-Baptiste Ley, EWC Director for Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe, said: “To be able to count on Motul as an Official Supplier of the FIM Endurance World Championship is really good news for the series and its stakeholders. Not only is Motul a globally recognised brand, it has also built a very strong reputation for its products and services, making this another proud moment in the 45-year history of the EWC.”

Andreea Culcea, Head of Brand and Communication for Motul, said: “The EWC is a championship to which we have always felt a deep connection, not only in terms of investments but also in terms of emotional impact. The captivating races and heroic feats of the riders serve as a source of inspiration for us and our customers, who are also enthusiasts. For years, we have been a consistent presence in the paddock, both as a partner of the series and alongside renowned teams. We take pride in renewing our partnership, considering it a crucial testing ground to validate the quality of our products and draw inspiration for new ideas and solutions. Additionally, it serves to connect with the hearts of our fans."

MOTUL IN SHORT

Founded in 1853, Motul has a strong heritage in the motorsport industry, dating back more than 170 years. It produces high-performance lubricants for engines and industry across 160 countries around the world, including motorbikes, cars, heavy duty vehicles and more.

The brand has built a strong global reputation for its high-quality products, competitive spirit, and innovation and is established as the official supplier to some of the most demanding motorsport categories and the competing manufacturers. They include the Dakar, MotoGP and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, plus many others.

In addition to its newly signed supplier agreement with Motul, the EWC is proud to partner with Dunlop, Nextash and Web!ke.

EWC EXPLAINED

Launched in 1980, the FIM Endurance World Championship is the ultimate high-speed test of rider and machine with its 45th season consisting of two races run for a duration of 24 hours and two taking place over eight hours.

Kicking off with the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans in France from 18-21 April, the EWC visits Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium for the inaugural 8 Hours of Spa Motos (6-8 June), followed by the 45th Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race at Suzuka Circuit in Japan from 18-21 July. The Bol d'Or 24-hour race at Circuit Paul Ricard in France forms the season decider from 12-15 September.

These legendary events at famous racetracks in Europe and Japan create a thrilling spectacle for fans and provide an exciting challenge for the Formula EWC teams contesting the 2024 FIM Endurance World Championship and the Superstock squads chasing success in the FIM Endurance World Cup.

Six motorcycle manufacturers (BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha) and three tyre brands (Bridgestone, Dunlop and Pirelli) were represented in 2023 with more and more international-level riders and teams joining the grid each year.

One of the notable features of EWC races is the spectacular standing start with riders lining up on one side of the track and sprinting across to the other to jump on their bikes before accelerating towards the first corner as the race begins.
