WORLD'S FIRST: RECORD BREAKING SWIMMERS MICHAEL PHELPS, MICHAEL GROSS AND MARK SPITZ COMPETE SIDE-BY-SIDE IN EUROSPORT'S EXCLUSIVE 'RACE OF LEGENDS' VIDEO
Today, fans will get to see the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps, compete side-by-side with two former World Record holders in the latest of Eurosport’s exclusive ‘Race of Legends’ series.
The incredible video stitches together footage from three iconic races swam by legends Michael Phelps (USA), Michael Gross (Germany) and Mark Spitz (USA) from the 100m Butterfly at the Beijing (2008), Los Angeles (1984) and Munich (1972) Olympics for fans to see for the first time how these legendary Olympians would compare in the pool.
Phelps quickly shows why he is the most decorated Olympian of all time as he leaves the two former World record holders in his wake from the very start. Phelps finishes in an Olympic Record time of 50.58 seconds, with Gross 2.5 seconds behind and Spitz a distant 3.19 seconds later – providing more evidence that Phelps is a man built for the water.
This episode will run on air and supported by Eurosport’s digital and social media platforms from Monday 24 July.
The release of the ‘Race of Legends’ coincides with Eurosport’s coverage of the swimming competitions at the FINA World Championships in Budapest, available for viewers to enjoy on Eurosport and Eurosport Player bringing fans all of the live action from the pool.
Eurosport CEO Peter Hutton said: “Time Machine gives fans the opportunity to look at iconic performances over the ages in a totally new way, showing just how Olympic sports and competitors have evolved over the years.
