WARNER BROS. DISCOVERY IN FINLAND AND THE FINNISH ICE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION REACH AGREEMENT ON BROADCASTING RIGHTS FOR THE WOMEN'S TOP LEAGUE AURORALIIGA

With the agreement, WBD’s extensive offering of women’s sports will expand even further starting in September
Warner Bros. Discovery in Finland has signed an agreement with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association for the broadcasting rights to the women’s top-tier ice hockey league, Auroraliiga, for the 2025–2026 season. Throughout the season, WBD will broadcast several Auroraliiga games on its free-to-air channels TV5 and Kutonen, as well as on the streaming service HBO Max. The broadcasts will kick off on September 6 on TV5 with the Kärpät vs. HPK match.
“Broadcasting Auroraliiga is a natural continuation of our extensive coverage of women’s sports, such as the Olympics, Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and national team ice hockey. Ice hockey is consistently ranked as the most popular sport among Finns, and with Auroraliiga broadcasts, we can showcase top-level women’s games regularly between EHT and World Championship tournaments,” said Antti Haajanen, VP Sports, Nordics at Warner Bros. Discovery.
“The collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery is a significant step forward for Auroraliiga and for Finnish women’s ice hockey as a whole. This partnership brings unprecedented visibility to our league and helps make our players’ stories more relatable to viewers. Increased exposure not only strengthens ice hockey, but also promotes the status and appreciation of women’s sports more broadly,” said Henni Laaksonen, Director of Auroraliiga.
In addition to Auroraliiga, Warner Bros. Discovery’s previous agreement with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association will continue through 2026–2032, ensuring that Team Finland’s international games and major tournaments (excluding the men’s World Championships) will remain available via WBD’s distribution channels. Furthermore, through a partnership with the International Olympic Committee and the European Broadcasting Union, WBD will serve as the “digital home” of the Olympics in Europe from 2026 to 2032. The next Olympic ice hockey coverage will take place in early spring during the Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026.
Thus, in the coming years, Warner Bros. Discovery will offer hockey fans an unparalleled opportunity to follow their favorite stars. As players compete in the Auroraliiga, all eyes will be on standout performances, with many athletes hoping to earn selection for Team Finland. WBD will deliver the atmosphere and twists of upcoming games and tournaments through its extensive coverage and distribution network.
Auroraliiga broadcasts in September:
6.9. Kärpät–HPK TV5
7.9. Kuortane–HIFK TV5
28.9. Kiekko-Espoo–HPK Kutonen
