Fans will have every angle covered both on and off the piste at the 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships with Eurosport showing over 40 hours of live action and daily highlights programming via Winter Sports Extra across 13 days of world-class competition.

It’s the fifth time that St. Moritz has hosted the World Championships and the slopes promise maximum excitement for fans. The legendary ‘free fall’ start to the men’s downhill is the highlight with skiers entering the course on a 45-degree gradient, accelerating to 140 km/h in 6 seconds. Inspired by the ‘free fall’, the women have the ‘Britannia’, a start that also sees them reach top speeds within seconds.

Eurosport has also added winter sports legend Tina Maze to its portfolio of premium talent with the four-time St Moritz winner and double Olympic gold medalist assuming the role of ‘The Coach’ within Winter Sports Extra, giving fans a whole new perspective on the action taking place on the slopes.

Alongside Maze, Jonathan Edwards will lead Eurosport’s international coverage, with a host of winter sports athletes of days gone by involved in Eurosport’s local broadcasts including Frank Wörndl (Germany), Urs Lehmann (Germany), Hans Olsson (Sweden), Jean-Pierre Vidal (France), Gauthier de Thessier (France), Karen Putzer (Italy), Matteo Marsaglia (Italy), Finlay Mickel (UK) and Nicolien Sauerbreij (Netherlands).

With the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games just one year away, the 2017 Alpine Skiing World Cup in St Moritz will give fans the opportunity to watch superstars such as Austrian Marcel Hirscher and Lindsey Vonn from the USA taking on the world, forming part of Eurosport’s strategy to tell year-round stories of Olympic athletes. In total, Eurosport, the Home of Winter Sports, will show over 800 hours of live, delayed coverage and highlights broadcast on Eurosport throughout the 2016-17 season.
