LIVERPOOL’S MEMORABLE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TRIUMPH RE-VISITED IN NEW DOCUMENTARY ON TNT SPORTS

It’s 20 years since the arguably the most extraordinary comeback in European football history took place – and TNT Sports will re-live the evening in a special feature documentary – The Miracle of Istanbul: Liverpool 2005.
Premiering on Sunday 25 May (9.45pm) – 20 years to the day since that memorable match - on TNT Sports 1, The Miracle of Istanbul: Liverpool 2005 recalls a host of stories from some of the key figures from that incredible night in the Ataturk Stadium as the Reds recovered from three goals down to beat a star-studded AC Milan team on penalties. The documentary will also be available to watch on TNT Sports’ streaming platform discovery+ from Sunday 25 May.
Then-manager Rafa Benitez, inspirational captain Steven Gerrard and goalkeeping hero Jerzy Dudek all share their own insights from the final, with Vladimir Smicer – scorer of the second of Liverpool’s three goals that evening – and John Arne Riise also contributing. Fans who were in the stadium that evening will also offer their own recollections.
Rafa Benitez said of the documentary: “That night in Istanbul will always hold a special place in our memories and our hearts. It is often forgotten how good that AC Milan side was. The game did not go the way anyone expected, but it was a night that no-one will ever forget.
“It is always special to re-live that occasion. With the thoughts of Stevie (Gerrard), John (Arne Riise), Jerzy (Dudek) and Vlad (Smicer), I know Liverpool fans will enjoy the documentary but I think this is a story that every football fan will enjoy and I hope we are able to get across our thoughts from that evening. It is one that will forever be remembered.”
The Miracle of Istanbul: Liverpool 2005 will be released on TNT Sports and will be available to watch on-demand via discovery+ ahead of an action-packed period of European club football that will include live and exclusive coverage of the UEFA Champions League Final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain from Munich (Saturday 31 May), the UEFA Europa League Final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur from Bilbao (Wednesday 21 May) and the UEFA Conference League Final between Chelsea and Real Betis from Wroclaw, Poland (Wednesday 28 May).
