20 September 2022

Federer Laver Cup 2022.png

Two teams vying for one illustrious trophy. Twelve of the world's best tennis players going toe-to-toe. Captained by two icons of the game. Assembled for Federer’s final farewell.

The Laver Cup returns in 2022, with fans across Europe* able to watch every shot and every dramatic moment LIVE on Warner Bros. Discovery Sports platforms across the continent as Team Europe take on Team World for the right to win the Laver Cup (23-25 September).

Hosted at a sold-out O2 Arena in London, the three-day event will feature a host of icons of the modern game as:

  • Roger Federer one of the sport’s greatest ever players returns to competitive tennis for one final time before retiring from the ATP Tour
  • Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal - with a staggering 43 Grand Slam titles between them - team up for Team Europe
  • Former world no.1 Andy Murray will play in front of a raucous home crowd in London, joined by US Open finalist Casper Ruud
  • World top 20 stars Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz and US Open semi-finalist Francis Tiafoe are set to represent a Team World side looking to win its maiden Laver Cup title
  • To add extra spice to an already star-studded event, great rivals Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe will captain Team Europe and Team World with Thomas Enqvist and Patrick McEnroe present as vice captains

discovery+ will offer fans live and on-demand streaming of every match from the Laver Cup in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK & Ireland. Eurosport Extra w Player will stream all the action for fans in Poland while the Eurosport App will provide coverage elsewhere in Europe.

In addition, exclusive television coverage will also be available via Eurosport 1 across Europe*. Eurosport.com will also cover every angle from London including breaking news, views and interviews ensuring fans are kept up-to-speed with the latest happenings at this year's Laver Cup.

Scott Young, SVP Content and Production at Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, said: “The Laver Cup is part of a titanic year of tennis where we have witnessed some of the most remarkable and controversial stories. New Grand Slam champions are making their mark while the game’s greats have both set records and had to overcome adversity for their legacies to endure. We've recently celebrated the retirement of a true trailblazer and champion and we're now about to say farewell to another global icon in sport. These moments offer a narrative around this sport that we’ve not seen in years.

“Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest ever world no.1 in history and at just 21, Iga Swiatek is also ranked no.1 with three Grand Slam titles. These players, and those in their era, are unlocking the future of the sport and we are there to share these moments. All this has helped us to engage a record number of people across Europe through our live coverage and storytelling around the Slams.

“Following just two weeks after the US Open, tennis fans will enjoy watching some of sport’s greatest champions and our team will be there showcasing every shot and story from London for our viewers across Europe, however they choose to watch and engage with the tournament.”

Now in its fifth edition, Team Europe will be looking to continue its dominance over Team World, having won each of the past Laver Cup events in Prague, Czech Republic (2017), Chicago, USA (2018), Geneva, Switzerland (2018) and Boston, USA (2021).

Mats Wilander - Eurosport tennis expert

“To have the big four back today at the Laver Cup is actually incredible. We're going to see how they interact, if they should and they will, play doubles together but also how they will interact while next to each other and while watching each other in their teams This is not a situation I never thought would happen. We haven't had this situation at the Laver Cup in the first six years but now we do. So now it's up to the Rest of the World to make this a close game because it's 6-0 for Europe and John McEnroe is not a happy captain at the moment. To be up against the big four - John, good luck.”

Alex Corretja - Eurosport tennis expert

“I can’t wait to see Roger on court. We are so excited to see him play, even if it’s just doubles we can’t wait. Hopefully he will feel healthy and good. He needs some matches so I think it’s the perfect event to play, going to the Laver Cup, to see how he moves and adjusts to his opponents. It’s very important for tennis to see Roger back. Having the 'Big Four' together is like a dream come true. For the fans it will be amazing; I think it will be a full house. It’s a totally different contrast of styles, they all have their own game and personality, but combined together in the same team it will be so much fun. The combination between singles and doubles where we can hear what they say for each other, we can learn from that as well. Even the top players like to receive tips so this is nice and very attractive for the crowd.”

Barbara Schett - Eurosport tennis expert

“It's so special to see the big four reunited. We haven't seen that in such a long time because of injuries and because of different circumstances. So also this could be the last time we see the four of them together, especially not being rivals on the court. They are team members so they will be able to support each other. There's going to be lots of talks, lots of coaching, and this is very exciting. That's why the Laver Cup is so unique.

“I'm very excited to see Roger Federer at the Laver cup. We haven't seen him play tennis for such a long time. Last year in Wimbledon, he played his last match and this will be the first coming out basically for Roger Federer at the Laver Cup. I'm not sure if he's going to play singles. I think he's most likely going to play doubles, probably with Rafa Nadal or Novak Djokovic. But I think everyone is very excited and everybody's talking about it. Who knows, it might be the last time as well that we will be able to see him on the court.”
