GRAND SLAM-WINNING TALENT HEADLINE EUROSPORT'S COVERAGE OF ROLAND GARROS

16 May 2017 - Last updated 7 May 2020

Novak Djokovic is the defending men’s champion at Roland Garros

2017 is the year some of the iconic tennis players have returned to the very top of their profession and they will go toe-to-toe once more when they return to the Grand Slam arena at Roland Garros in May and June, live on Eurosport.

From Novak Djokovic to Rafael Nadal and Angelique Kerber to Simona Halep, fans of tennis will be in for a treat when Eurosport, the Home of the four Grand Slams, shows EVERY point from EVERY match of EVERY singles and doubles match during the two-week tournament on television and the Eurosport Player, equating to 250 hours of LIVE action.

Eurosport’s commitment to engaging world-class talent to front premium events will see a team boasting an astonishing 80 Grand Slam singles and doubles titles working for the broadcaster across multiple markets at Roland Garros*.

MATS WILANDER, a three-time winner at Roland Garros himself, will link up with BARBARA SCHETT to bring the Game, Set and Mats daily magazine show to television screens across Europe. As well as interviews with the personalities that matter at Roland Garros, Eurosport’s Grand Slam flagship programme will also feature The Coach, the popular segment hosted by Serena Williams’ super-coach PATRICK MOURATOGLOU who will use augmented reality to analyse the strategies of the best players playing in Paris.

The Commissioner returns! Love him or hate him, you just can’t ignore him. JOHN MCENROE is back with another hilarious series as The Commissioner of Tennis. The eight-episode series will feature the irreverent views of tennis’ great entertainer broadcast during Game, Set and Mats and published across Eurosport’s social and digital platforms. CHRIS EVERT, winner of 18 Grand Slam titles during a glittering career spanning two decades, will also be an important part of Eurosport’s international team at Roland Garros.

Across Europe, a host of tennis stars will offer local expertise to local Eurosport commentary teams. BORIS BECKER will once again work with Eurosport Germany’s award-winning tennis team while the charismatic HENRI LECONTE and MARION BARTOLI will be part of the line-up working for Eurosport in France. MARY PIERCE, PAT CASH and JO DURIE will be on the Eurosport UK team with former tennis starlet ANNA CHAKVETADZE headlining Eurosport Russia’s broadcasts. JONAS BJORKMAN, winner of nine Grand Slam doubles titles will team up with THOMAS ENQVIST during Eurosport Sweden’s coverage of the tournament. ALEX CORRETJA, who will also work on Eurosport’s international coverage, is set to work alongside CONCHITA MARTINEZ for Eurosport in Spain

Eurosport tennis anchor Mats Wilander said: “Roland Garros is a tournament which holds a special place in my heart and I am thrilled to be part of the Eurosport team that I am sure will deliver another fantastic tournament. The feedback we continue to receive from fans across Europe about our coverage continues to be positive as our audience numbers suggest.

“Eurosport is a broadcaster not afraid to innovate as shown by The Coach and The Commissioner of Tennis episodes – two entirely different segments but that appeal to our audiences in different ways. When you marry that with the calibre of talent with whom Eurosport is working with at Roland Garros, then it is a winning combination.”

But Eurosport’s unrivalled coverage of Roland Garros extends well beyond the two weeks of world-class action during the main tournament itself.

Not only will fans be able to watch the likes of clay-court king Rafael Nadal bid for his tenth title in Paris, they will also be able to see key matches from the qualifying tournament as well as a raft of tennis shows that ensure every angle is covered in the lead up to – and during - Eurosport’s coverage of Roland Garros.

As excitement ahead of the main tournament peaks, former tennis ace Barbara Schett will host five episodes of Get Ready on Eurosport, a daily show featuring the latest news and views LIVE from Paris as the second Grand Slam of the year closes in. Eurosport will also celebrate the players of yesteryear in Downtime, a five-part series that will see Mats Wilander sit down with legends of the past including Boris Becker, Gustavo Kuerten, Andre Agassi and the flamboyant Yannick Noah about their experiences at Roland Garros and why it is a unique event on the tennis calendar.

With the main tournament draw from Paris broadcast LIVE on Friday 26 May at midday (CEST), fans won’t have to look any further than Eurosport – the number sports destination in Europe - for their tennis fix from late May.

In January, Eurosport recorded its highest rating tennis match of all-time and the second most watched sport event in its history when Roger Federer defeated Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open. The match reached 20.7m viewers via Eurosport and Discovery-owned free-to-air channels across Europe.
