EUROSPORT TO SERVE UP THE BEST YEAR OF TENNIS YET IN 2017

9 January 2017 - Last updated 7 May 2020

Mats Wilander and Barbara Schett

All courts. All matches. The best analysts. The best programming.

From Murray to Djokovic, Kerber to Williams - 2017 is the year the world’s finest tennis players come out to play on Eurosport.

The number one destination for sport cements itself as the Home of Grand Slam tennis broadcasting each of the four majors in Europe* for the very first time.

Starting at January’s Australian Open, Eurosport underlines its commitment to delivering premium content to sports fans. 2017 will see Eurosport and the Eurosport Player deliver almost 1,000 hours of live top level tennis, showing EVERY Grand Slam match from every court.

World-class experts will offer fans their unique insights into the game throughout the year with Mats Wilander, Barbara Schett, Alex Corretja and Patrick Mouratoglou leading Eurosport’s international coverage. In another boost for tennis fans, charismatic American tennis icon John McEnroe returns to take the reins as Eurosport’s self-appointed Commissioner of Tennis at the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne.

Boris Becker (Germany), Conchita Martinez (Spain), Mary Pierce (UK), Pat Cash (UK), Henri Leconte (France) and Marion Bartoli (France) will provide headline commentary and local expertise across Europe.

Mats Wilander said: “In everything we do at Eurosport, its fans first. And in 2017 we are relishing the opportunity to take our coverage of the Grand Slams to a whole new level. We offer unrivalled coverage of each Grand Slam from some of the best analysts in the world.

“After a remarkable 2016 with both Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber reaching world number one for the first time in their careers, this year promises to be better than ever. The likes of Djokovic, Wawrinka and Serena Williams – all Grand Slam winners in 2016 – will no doubt be snapping at their heels and Eurosport will be there every step of the way in Melbourne, Paris, Wimbledon and New York. And we haven’t even mentioned tennis royalty Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer yet.”

Once again, Eurosport’s coverage of the Grand Slams will be complemented by the very best programming ensuring every angle from every match is covered.

Game, Set & Mats, hosted by legendary duo Mats Wilander and Barbara Schett, will be the flagship program of Eurosport’s television coverage. Broadcast each evening from day one of each Grand Slam, Game, Set & Mats will dissect the day’s play and preview the following day’s best match ups in an action-packed thirty minute show.

The use of enhanced augmented reality such as the 3D Universe will underpin The Coach, also returning in 2017. Presented by Serena Williams’ super-coach Patrick Mouratoglou within Game, Set & Mats, The Coach will delve deeper than ever before into the strategies of players, why matches played out as they did while also casting an expert eye on the forthcoming matches at each Grand Slam.

As the Commissioner of Tennis, John McEnroe will be back on Eurosport’s screens in 2017. No-one is safe as McEnroe takes an irreverent look at the best of the action on (and off) the court in a must-watch eight-episode series broadcast during the Australian Open on Game, Set & Mats as well as Eurosport’s digital and social platforms.

Eurosport will be re-introducing its unique wake-up call service for the Australian Open so fans don’t miss their favourite players in action in Melbourne. Fans in France, Germany, UK, Spain, Poland and Romania can sign up for the wake-up call via http://wakeupcall.eurosport.com to receive a recorded message from their tennis heroes moments before they step out on court.

In 2017 though, it’s about more than just a two-week Grand Slam tournament. Viewers will have the opportunity to watch even more drama unfold on their screens as Eurosport broadcasts the qualifying tournaments from both the Australian Open (for the first time) and Roland Garros.

ENDS.
