EUROSPORT SIGNS ICE-HOCKEY LEGEND, PETER FORSBERG, AS EXPERT COMMENTATOR IN SWEDEN FOR OLYMPIC GAMES COVERAGE IN 2018
One of the greatest ice hockey players of all time, Peter Forsberg, has joined Discovery Networks Sweden and Eurosport as an expert commentator. Forsberg, who competed in four Olympic Games as a player and led the Swedish national team to two golds, will make his TV debut for the sports destination at the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang in 2018.
The appointment follows last year’s announcement by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that it had awarded all TV and multiplatform broadcast rights in Europe to Discovery and Eurosport for the 2018-2024 Olympic Games.
Forsberg said: “The Olympic Games will always have a special place in my heart, with all the expectations, dreams and achievements. The Swedish national team is always one of the gold medal contenders and I’m looking forward to being onsite and following the team closely as an expert for Discovery Networks Sweden.”
Emir Osmanbegovic, Head of Sports at Discovery Networks Sweden and Eurosport added: “It’s a dream come true working with one of Sweden’s most famous and popular athletes of all time. Peter’s experience, knowledge and winning mind-set, will boost our biggest and most important broadcast ever.”
Forsberg is a Swedish legend of the Olympic Games. He shot to fame after his game-winning penalty in the finals against Canada in Lillehammer 1994. He went on to win his second Olympic gold medal for Sweden in Torino, in 2006, and he was the Swedish flag bearer during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010.
As a player in the NHL, Forsberg won the Stanley Cup twice with Colorado Avalanche. In 2003 he was awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy as MVP and in 2014 he was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
