EUROSPORT SERVES UP NEW VR APP AHEAD OF ROLAND GARROS
Eurosport, the number one sport destination in Europe, has launched Eurosport VR, a new Virtual Reality (VR) application to give fans the chance to become immersed within the heart of world class sport. Eurosport VR is ready to download ahead of this year’s Roland Garros and will feature daily highlights of the best matches, including ‘Shots of the Day’, and exclusive behind the scenes footage in stunning VR.
Throughout the year, Eurosport VR will allow viewers to get closer to the action than ever before, helping to fuel the passion of fans across Europe. During Roland Garros, fans will be able to see the world through the eyes of some of the tennis’ biggest stars, with dramatic 360° on-court views during exclusive player interviews.
The innovation builds on the development of a range of breathtaking VR content by Eurosport and Discovery Communications, including the incredible 360° film which allowed fans to experience Bode Miller’s point of view as he tackled the Beaver Creek course ahead of last winter’s Alpine Skiing World Cup event at the venue.
Peter Hutton, Eurosport CEO, said: “We continually strive to deliver new and exciting ways for fans to immerse themselves in world-class sport. Using innovative production technologies, the Eurosport VR app will transport fans right to the heart of the action and bring them closer than ever to their heroes.
“There was an amazing reaction to our first VR video featuring Bode Miller and we can’t wait for fans to experience tennis in VR, many for the very first time.”
Eurosport VR is available to download now on iOS, Android and Oculus devices. Fans can experience all films via VR goggles, such as Samsung Gear VR, or solutions such as Google Cardboard.
Roland Garros highlights and exclusive behind the scenes footage will be available to watch after the close of play each day from the opening of the tournament, Monday 23 May, until Sunday 5 June 2016, the date of the Men’s Singles final.
Eurosport VR follows Discovery’s long history of bringing together emerging technology with its quality content and storytelling, with Discovery VR – including a dedicated app - the latest way it is creating thrilling content for audiences. The Discovery VR app has seen more than 700,000 downloads and 30 million streams to date, with new content added each week across its platforms.
