EUROSPORT SECURES EXCLUSIVE DFB-POKAL RIGHTS IN POLAND FROM 2018
Eurosport, the number one destination for sports fans in Europe and the most-watched sports channel in Poland, has acquired exclusive broadcast rights to the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in Poland for four years starting from the 2018-19 season.
A minimum of 19 LIVE DFB-Pokal matches will be available to watch each season on the Eurosport Player as well as both Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2.
The DFB-Pokal is one of the most glamourous and prestigious knockout competitions in the world with the winner qualifying for the UEFA Europa League and earning the right to play in the season-opening DFB-Supercup against the champions of the Bundesliga.
Dorota Żurkowska-Bytner, SVP Country Manager, Discovery Poland, said: “Along with winter sports, cycling and tennis, football is a cornerstone of Eurosport’s programming lineup. We are thrilled to see our platforms continue to show the most exciting football events.
“Importantly, the strategic investment in the media rights to DFB-Pokal, a tournament featuring many Polish football players on a regular basis, is a decision made specifically with the Polish market and Polish fans in mind.”
Poland has strong links with the DFB-Pokal competition with hitman Robert Lewandowski being one of only three players to score a hat-trick in a final when he did so for Borussia Dortmund against his current club Bayern Munich in 2012. Former Polish internationals Tomasz Hajto and Tomasz Waldoch also picked up DFB-Pokal winners medals in 2001 and 2002 while playing for Schalke 04.
