EUROSPORT REACHES AGREEMENT TO BROADCAST MALMO GAMES LIVE
Eurosport, the number one destination for sports fans in Europe, today announced a three-year deal to broadcast the Malmo Games starting in 2017 meaning viewers will now have more opportunities watch world-class athletics throughout next summer.
The Malmo Games returns on Friday 18 August to the 26,500 Malmo Stadion after debuting in 2015 and is set to feature some of the best track and field talent in the world. The legendary Kim Collins provided the highlight of the last Malmo Games, clocking 6.52 seconds in the 60m sprint.
The pan-European agreement strengthens Eurosport’s commitment to broadcasting premium sporting content with the event scheduled to take place just a week after the World Athletics Championships in London, also broadcast live and exclusively on Eurosport.
Discovery-owned Kanal 5 in Sweden, will broadcast the event live on-site with a local commentary team featuring track and field expert Jonas Karlsson.
Eurosport CEO Peter Hutton said: “We are delighted to secure an agreement with the event organisers to broadcast the Malmo Games. We have made no secret of our desire to show world-class action from across the globe and with the Games taking place just a week after one of the highlights on the 2017 sporting calendar – the World Athletics Championships – public interest will be strong.
“The Malmo Games is also an important addition to our portfolio as we embark on our journey towards the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. At Eurosport, we want to tell the stories of the athletes now and broadcasting the best events from the across the world will allow us to do just that.”
Malmo Games President Bengt Bendeus said: “We have the ambition of becoming one of the leading athletics meets in Europe. Therefore, it was crucial we partnered with a broadcaster that has a world-class reputation for delivering events such as Eurosport.
“Securing this agreement with Eurosport gives us the perfect opportunity to begin inviting world-class talent to the event and allows us to begin engaging potential sponsors which will hopefully lead to us creating a sustainable Malmo Games in the years ahead.”
The agreement between Eurosport and the Malmo Games also covers the sale of television rights to markets outside of Europe.

The 2017 Malmo Games will be broadcast on Eurosport on Friday 18 August, between 7pm CET and 9pm CET (Europe only)
The event will be broadcast on Kanal 5 in Sweden
