EUROSPORT RACKS UP INCREASED AUDIENCES FOR THE 2016 WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP ACROSS EUROPE
Eurosport attracted more than 42 million distinct European viewers for its coverage of the 2016 World Snooker Championship which was held at the Crucible in Sheffield from April 16 – May 2. As a result, the Discovery-owned broadcaster recorded an increase reach of 4.5% versus the 2015 edition and an average audience rise of 18%.
The World Championship, which saw Mark Selby win a second world title after 17 days of fierce competition, performed strongly in markets across Europe, with an average year-on-year audience rise of:
- 43% in the UK, the best tournament audience in the last decade
- 84% in Italy, best audience since 2009
- 40% in Romania
- 23% in Germany, best audience since 2008
- 10% in Poland
- 8% in Sweden, 7% in Denmark
