EUROSPORT PARTNERS WITH WINTER SPORTS ICON LINDSEY VONN TO LAUNCH ‘CHASING HISTORY’
Eurosport today announced it has teamed up with Lindsey Vonn, the most successful Downhill skier of all time, to launch an all-encompassing series that will give fans exclusive access to the winter sports icon – on and off the piste - like never before.
‘Chasing History’, which debuts in February 2017, will go behind-the-scenes with Vonn as she pursues her professional dream of breaking the number of world cup wins, forming a key part of the buildup to Eurosport’s coverage of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Vonn, from Vail, Colorado, USA, is regarded as the most successful downhill skier of all-time and has won 76 world cup races to date in a career spanning 16 years. The 2010 Olympic Downhill gold medallist will give Eurosport cameras an access all areas pass into her life. Fans will see how she relaxes away from the slopes at home with family and friends, her own personal passions, as well being given the opportunity to delve deep into the mindset of an elite athlete striving for sporting immortality.
Fans will be taken on a journey to experience the high moments, the low moments, and the challenges that Vonn will face in her quest to become an Olympian. With just under 500 days until the start of the 2018 Winter Olympics, ‘Chasing History’ is strategically important as Eurosport begins to tell the human stories behind the athletes as they strive to win gold in PyeongChang.
The series will be broadcast across all Eurosport channels and platforms, including the Eurosport Player, the Eurosport subscription service that gives fans the chance to enjoy exclusive content LIVE and on demand.
Exclusive additional content will also be available on a dedicated app to be launched ahead of the show.
Lindsey Vonn said: “I’m thrilled to be given this opportunity to share my story with Eurosport through ‘Chasing History’. For me personally, the next 18 months are going to be some of the most exciting times of my professional life and I can think of no better partner than Eurosport – the undisputed Home of Winter Sports – on this project. Eurosport has followed me throughout my professional career, and now is the right time to give an insight into my personal life.
“Chasing History will take fans on a journey where hopefully I will experience some fantastic moments, but they will also see some of the day-to-day challenges that any professional athlete faces. It should be a lot of fun!”
Peter Hutton, CEO of Eurosport, added: “Eurosport is incredibly excited to be working with Lindsey, a genuine global superstar. Throughout her career Lindsey has proved herself to be not only a trailblazer who has evolved into a global icon, but also a role model for millions across the world. Across all Eurosport platforms, fans will get a unique insight into how this world-class athlete prepares, the high moments, the low moments, and the challenges she faces as she `chases History’.
“This new immersive programming is a perfect example of the new Eurosport, creating unique content to sit alongside unrivalled coverage of live sport, with Eurosport presenting every World Championship and World Cup event this winter.”
In June 2015, Discovery Communications and the International Olympic Committee signed an agreement that will give Eurosport exclusive television and multi-platform broadcast for 50 countries and territories in Europe for the next four Olympic Games (PyeongChang 2018, Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022 and the 2024 Olympic Games).
