EUROSPORT BOLSTERS BUNDESLIGA PORTFOLIO BY SECURING LIVE RIGHTS FOR AUSTRIA AND SWITZERLAND
Eurosport today announced it has reached agreement with the Deutsche Fussball Liga (DFL) to screen the Bundesliga exclusively live in Austria, Switzerland as well as German-speaking territories Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and the South Tyrol region from the 2017-18 season.
The new agreement, underlining the broadcaster’s commitment to showcasing premium, locally relevant content to sports fans across the continent, will see Eurosport televise 40 Bundesliga matches live per season into Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and the South Tyrol region.
Eurosport will broadcast the match in the primetime slot of Friday evening as well as selected games on Sunday afternoons and Monday nights throughout the season.
In June this year, the DFL announced that Eurosport had been awarded rights to broadcast live coverage of the Bundesliga in Germany from the 2017-18 season.
In another boost for fans, Eurosport will also broadcast the German Supercup season curtain-raiser as well as the four tension-filled relegation matches (Bundesliga / Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 2 / 3rd League) with games to be shown live on Eurosport’s paid platforms.
The live broadcast will kick-off with the German Supercup shown on Eurosport 2 and on the Eurosport Player. The first live Bundesliga match to be shown on Eurosport’s paid platforms in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and the South Tyrol region will be on the opening day of the 2017-18 season on Friday 18 August.
Alberto Horta, Vice President Strategy and Commercial Development Discovery Germany: “The additional agreement with the DFL for Austria and Switzerland, adds the missing jigsaw piece of broadcasting the Bundesliga in the whole GSA region and it will increase the attractiveness of our portfolio for both, our viewers and our media partners.”
