Speaking exclusively to Eurosport Spain’s La Montonera show, UCI WorldTeam Bahrain-McLaren's Mikel Landa tells of the current challenges he faces as a professional cyclist at the moment
On current lines of communication with his team
We are in constant contact. We assess the situation of everyone in each country, especially whether or not it is possible to train. Cycling is totally present in places like France, Italy or Spain being among the most affected by the virus.
On meeting the team to prepare for the Tour de France
This is an option that the team is evaluating since before all this happened. As long as it's possible, I imagine we'll be able to do something, but it depends a lot on how the situation progresses in general, taking into account the places where we could do it.
On whether the Tour de France is his main objective in 2020
This season can't be considered a lost one, but it's going to be quite strange. Once the Tour is over, we'll have to see and analyse if there's time to face another big challenge, taking into account whether we recover and rest well. Why not another big challenge?
On joining a new team as leader and not being able to compete
As we are all the same, I face it with a little more tranquility. It's harder when you're facing injuries because while you're standing, the others are moving forward. However, as we are all at home now and in the same condition, I feel much calmer for when we return to the competition
On how he is using his free time
I've had time to organize the house from top to bottom. You're piling up too much stuff in the storage room, closets or bikes that I had somewhere. In the end, you want to be entertained as much as possible.
