CYCLING STAR ENRIC MAS SPEAKS EXCLUSIVELY TO EUROSPORT SPAIN'S LA MONTONERA
Cycling star Enric Mas spoke exclusively to Eurosport Spain's La Montonero programme to give an exclusive insight into his routine during the lockdown period.
On his routine during confinement
It's routine and I do pretty much the same thing every day. After I get up, I start with roller training in addition to core and gym. When I'm done, I have breakfast and go back to the roller and then finish the day between meals, train a little more and rest.’
On not training on the road and spending many hours on the roller
It's hard, I won't deny it. This week is hard enough because you're doing a lot of hours a week and it's not the same to be in a room all the time as it is to train on a road where you can stop for a coffee or make a series in the mountain.’
On the possibility for professional cyclists to train on the road in Spain as soon as possible as in other countries
I hope we will be able to start soon both in Andorra and in Spain. It is true that in Italy and Spain the situation has been more complicated compared to other countries, or at least that is the impression that is given to us all. From the first day they told the whole team to stay at home and we're obviously complying with that. I hope that next week we can start going out to train and leave the roller a little bit behind.
On his schedule
We prepared to take part in the Paris-Nice, Tour of the Basque Country, racing two or three of the Classics apart from the Dauphiné and finally the Tour de France. In the end I was able to do the Mallorca race and part of the Murcia race because I had to retire because of a virus. I also did the Vuelta a Andalucía, although I was still recovering from the virus.
On Nairo Quintana's great form after leaving the team
I am not surprised by the level he showed in the races we have seen this year. He is a great rider and has always shown it. It is true that in the last years in the general of the Grand Tours he has not come to be at that level but undoubtedly he is one of the best demonstrating always how professional he is and in good form. This year the season has begun strongly and I hope that when we can return to be also at a great level.
