BIRGIT NÖSSING JOINS EUROSPORT GERMANY FOR PYEONGCHANG 2018 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES

25 January 2017 - Last updated 7 May 2020

Birgit Noessing

Birgit Nössing, the popular German-speaking sports presenter, has joined Eurosport and will be one of the faces of its exclusive and localized PyeongChang 2018 coverage in Germany.  She will present live from PyeongChang, joining a team of top-class German talent such as ski jumping experts Sven Hannawald and Martin Schmitt.

The South Tyrolean will make her on-screen Eurosport debut on 6 February during the Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz (6 to 19 February).  The signing is another example of the localization of Eurosport in Germany, delivering year-round must-see action for German fans including exclusive Bundesliga matches from 2017/18 season.

Birgit Nössing said: “I'm really looking forward to my new role and the wonderful opportunity to present the Olympic Winter Games to fans exclusively in Germany. I know what great challenges await me and I'm very thankful for the enormous trust shown by Eurosport.

“It feels fantastic to be a part of this passionate Eurosport family and I'm very much looking forward to making my debut at the World Ski Championships in St. Moritz.”

Werner Starz, Director Product Development Eurosport in Germany, said: “Birgit was our dream candidate and she will become the face to our coverage as early as February. She convinced us immediately with her engaging style, great enthusiasm for sport and excellence in live TV coverage. As a part of the presentation team for the Olympic Winter Games, she will become one of the stars of our localized German coverage.”

Birgit Nössing joins Eurosport from the sports television channel Sky Sport News HD, where she has been a news anchor since 2011. Following her studies of journalism at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, she started her TV career in 2006 at the Berlin-based news channel N24, where she reported from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Winter sport, especially skiing, runs in Birgit Nössing's blood. As an active ski racer, she participated in many competitions at an international level.  “It was always my childhood dream to take part in the Winter Olympics as a ski racer,” she said. “Unfortunately, I had torn a cruciate ligament in my left knee, when I was 16.

“I had to waive all ski races and with my career end, my dream of becoming an Olympian was also over. However, later in 1998, when I watched the Winter Games in Nagano on TV, in the middle of the night, it became absolutely clear, that I wanted to experience the magic of the Olympic Games first hand. Presenting the Olympic Winter Games for Eurosport live and on-site in PyeongChang is the fulfilment of a childhood dream.”

In November 2016, it was announced that Eurosport will present the Olympic Games exclusively in Germany from 2018 to 2024. Eurosport will deliver a comprehensive, localized free-to-air coverage in Germany, focused on the stories of local heroes that matter to German fans.

Eurosport 1 will be the heart of the coverage in Germany and allow its viewers to follow every significant German Olympic moment on free-TV, with further coverage on DMAX and Eurosport 2. Eurosport will offer every moment, any time and on any device, on its digital platforms.
