BACK WITH A BANG: UEFA EUROPEAN CLUB COMPETITIONS RETURNS TO TNT SPORTS TONIGHT
• TNT Sports is set to broadcast more UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League games than ever for fans to enjoy as part of a revamped 2024/25 season
• England legend Karen Carney joins the star-studded team to offer her insights and expertise
• Beloved Goals Show format returns as ‘Goals Show Xtra’, featuring top tier pundits and journalists from across the continent for the entirety of the European season
UEFA’s premier club competitions returns to our screens tonight (Tuesday 17th September) as TNT Sports – the home of European club football - ushers in a new era that promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
NEW FORMAT, MORE MATCHES
For the 2024-25 season, TNT Sports and its streaming platform discovery+ will show 187 UEFA Champions League matches live and exclusively* and a further 342 games from the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League – meaning fans can enjoy an eye-watering 529 European club football fixtures on its channels and platforms over the next nine months.
The increase in games is a result of the new format introduced by UEFA across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, which sees the inclusion of 36 teams in the main competitions - up from the previous 32 - and the introduction of a single league phase. Teams will face at least eight teams from other domestic leagues before the highest finishers qualify for the knockout rounds. This season, the stakes are even higher, with teams finishing outside of the qualification places not dropping down to another competition, meaning fans can expect more days of action and high drama.
BRITISH INTEREST ACROSS EACH COMPETITION
The first week of competition centres on the Champions League. TNT Sports will broadcast Aston Villa’s trip to BSC Young Boys for their highly anticipated return to the Champions League (Tuesday 17th September), Manchester City entertain an Inter Milan team out for revenge (18th September) after their loss in the 2023 final, Glasgow Celtic welcome Slovan Bratislava (18th September) and Arsenal visit Atalanta in the first ever UEFA Champions League fixture scheduled on a Thursday night (19th September), amongst a whole host of other fixtures featuring European heavyweights.
In addition, all games involving Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Glasgow Rangers in the UEFA Europa League (league stage starting Wednesday 25 September), as well as Chelsea, Heart of Midlothian, Larne from Northern Ireland and Welsh side TNS in the Conference League (league stage starting Wednesday 2 October), will be broadcast live and exclusively on TNT Sports and discovery+.
NEW FACES, NEW RE-IMAGINED GOALS SHOW XTRA PROGRAMME
With more action comes the need for more expert analysis with Karen Carney joining TNT Sports, adding to an already star-studded line-up. The England, Chelsea and Arsenal legend will add her own expertise and analysis alongside TNT Sports presenters and analysts including Laura Woods, Ally McCoist, Reshmin Chowdhury, Owen Hargreaves and Rio Ferdinand.
This season, the beloved Goals Show will be re-imagined to suit the new format of the three European club competitions. Goals Show Xtra will be presented by Matt Smith from a brand-new studio, ‘The Curve’ and will feature rolling highlights during each matchday meaning fans won’t miss any of the key moments, no matter where each game is played in Europe.
In addition, Matt will be joined by respected pundits, journalists and reporters who will connect with ‘The Curve’ each matchday from stadiums across the continent ensuring every angle is covered and debated. Karen Carney and Owen Hargreaves will be in ‘The Curve’ for matchday one of the Champions League, starting from 7.30pm tonight (Tuesday). Throughout the season, popular European football experts Julien Laurens, James Horncastle, and Rafa Honigstein will also offer additional commentary and analysis during TNT Sports’ coverage.
discovery+ will again offer innovative streaming features to enhance the viewer match day experience. Timeline Markers will allow fans to re-live and catch-up on key match moments, with Goal Alerts enabling fans to be kept across all the action as it happens, providing the option to seamlessly view goals in near real-time across every fixture.
